SOUNDSCAPE CABINET
Electro-mechanical sound installation/ Musical automaton (2019)
Electro-mechanical sound installation/ Musical automaton (2019)
Electro-mechanical devices are subtly interacting with water in various ways to create a seemingly randomized flow of events. Listening experience is an amalgamate of various real-life situations, a hybrid of Western Baroque and Japanese gardens and our inevitable every-day interactions with water.

In this piece, a critical look at mimesis as a principle should tingle your mind as you experience the work where the superposition of technology with natural material such is water, creates tension without an utopian resolution - this is not a nature replica, this is a musical composition realized by purely technical means.

This installation is a continuation of the work by Maraš where she uses the sound of water as the main musical material. She has worked with this subject previously in the work Wasser from 2017 - as well an electro-mechanical sound installation and a musical automaton. With Soundscape cabinet, Maraš went further to explore how complex and non-linear interactions of mechanical devices with water can be used as a constitutive material for musical composition that unrolls itself in front of the listeners in real-time.
